Abstract
This interview is with Dr. Debra Salata from a small Appalachian university, specifically Lincoln Memorial University. The interview covers two closely linked topics: how professional historians come to the field of history, and how their personal and academic formation shapes the way they teach history in a changing world. This interview also captures the historian’s lived experience and how her career has evolved alongside changes in higher education and scholarship.
